Fishing tips
As with all fishing, it is best to fish near the lake bed. For angling, make sure to place the float so the worm wriggles just over the lake bottom, or why not put a lead on the line so the worm lies directly on the lake floor. For bait casting you can simply let the spinner sink to the bottom before you begin winding in.
Look for pike and perch at deep edges where it is both shallow and deep. Fish seek food in the shallows but will swim down for protection into deeper water when they are startled or feel threatened.
Perch bite well on worms or small spinners and are often found in shallow creeks, under jetties and near rocky lake beds.
Pike are best caught by spinner rods. Attach a spoon bait or a wobbler on the line and fish near water plants, such as water-lilies or reeds. Don’t forget a leader nearest the spinner, otherwise the pike’s teeth can easily tear the line apart.
Pike-perch are best caught with a coloured wobbler. Fish at dusk and at night when they come up to the surface to hunt for small fish.
Roach and bream bite best on bread, corn and worms and are often found near water plants and over soft bottom lake beds.
Morning, evening and after bad weather are the best biting times.
