Right of public access

The Right of Public Access also applies to waterways. You may swim from the beaches, go by boat to most places, moor and overnight in a boat.

NäckrosorAs with the Right to Public Access on land, consideration must also be shown on water. Tourism and other outdoor activities are possible thanks to this Right of Public Access. Organisations and companies have no special rights. The Rights are applicable to each individual. Anyone who participates in outdoor activities does so in accordance with this Right of Public Access.

Anchoring, mooring and going ashore

ankraGoing ashore, swimming, anchoring and temporary mooring at a beach is allowed, unless the beach is privately owned or protected by special legislation. A private beach is where the occupants of a nearby house may be disturbed by your presence. It is the risk of disturbance that is the ‘rule of thumb’. There is no specific rule for how long you may anchor at the same place. However, as with camping, the ‘rule of thumb’ is a day or two. HUndThe determining factor is the risk of disturbance to the landowner or nearby residents. If you plan to anchor or moor longer than a day or two then permission must be requested from the landowner.

Going ashore is not permitted at bird sanctuaries during certain times of the year. Regulations for how close to land you may sail should be observed. The prohibited area is indicated with yellow or red and yellow signs.

Dogs

Dogs are allowed in the countryside. The demands on dog owners are great and strict rules apply. Hund på flotteComplete control is the rule. The regulations are primarily to protect wildlife. During the period 1st March – 20th August no dogs may run unleashed in forests or the countryside. This means that dogs are to be kept leashed.

Fires

Campfires may be part of outdoor life but are a worry to landowners. Valuable forests are destroyed annually due to carelessness with campfires. You are allowed to have a campfire when appropriate safety measures are taken. For example, a suitable site for the campfire should be selected. During the summer campfires are often prohibited, even at campsites where a hearth has been provided.

Hunting and fishing

Hunting is only permitted in accordance with the Law on Hunting Game. Raiding nests, stealing eggs or attempted capture of animals or birds is considered hunting and is strictly prohibited. Fishing is not included in the Right of Public Access.
